The beat ' em up mechanics needed some more work. Sadly, my A couldn't really handle jetpack finale. The framerate was so jittery I could never complete it. In fact, "Robocop 3" is a great game. Sure, a normal A had a little trouble with speed but still the graphics look great, the level-design was great and it was fun to switch between different game modes. The game takes a little to get used to it but once you "get it" it's truly a blast.

And just think about it: This game pioneered a lot of stuff that became standard years later. Try it! It also did benefit from coming way before the terrible movie, which was being held back by Orion's financial strain. The game's story is likely closer to Frank Miller's script, before it was butchered and toned down again for the big screen.

With RoboCop 3, Digital Image Design delivered primitive implementations of features that would become some of the cornerstones of modern gaming: first-person shooting on a full 3D engine, free-roaming areas, absurd copy protection schemes Unfortunately several portions of the gameplay could have used some refinement.

The on-foot FPS sections were particularly frustrating due to the inability to strafe and therefore to dodge grenades that were an instant kill. Never owned it myself, but the 3D was exciting for me back then. We played the driving sequence almost exclusively. But I remember being simply blown away by the 3D graphics, and the atmospheric soundtrack! The gun sounds are damn goods!

If I remember correctly, I didn't like the driving sections that much though I particularly liked the driving portions. But I always felt the fighting portion was a little frustrating. I'll have to revisit and see if I can do better on that. But overall this was a first rate title that really surprised me at how good it was. This one is absolutely a precursor of today's FPS games and 3D extravaganza. If you give up these rights, well, then bully for you.
