Software raid windows vista

RAID is a technology that allows a volume partition uses together with the space on the multiple disks, in this way, disk's utilization and system performance can be improved. There are a variety of different types and implementations of RAID, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. In the IT world, hardware failure does not occur often, but in the event, the running server may lose large amounts of important data.

How to protect server data? Many users choose to use RAID to deal with the risk of hardware failures. Hardware RAID can be implemented by requiring high hardware requirements, in the form of special disk controllers, but also needs computer motherboard support.

This means it takes a high cost to set up hardware RAID. Software RAID is well supported by the operating system, which is implemented by OS kernel module, and no required extraordinary hardware.

It is the best choice for common personal users and server users. RAID 1 is usually implemented as mirroring, is a fault-tolerant volume that duplicates data on two different physical disks. Software RAID 1 is supported on dynamic disks and provides data redundancy by using two identical copies mirrors of the volume.

If either drive fails, the other continues to work as a single drive until the failed drive is replaced. As this nice ability most IT manager prefers to use software raid1 because it could cost the least hard disk and give the data biggest protection. They always add a raid mirroring to their system partition when there sever OS setting up.

Create software raid 1 is an easy task; it could be completed with the built-in disk management easily. After the software raid 1 setting up, you could write new data into it, every data you write in will be backed up automatic in another hard disk.

I'm not advocating the use of that hack, but I doubt it'll be the end of the world if you use it and patch your system. It was hacking the ProductType entry in the registry. The disk management utility was the same for both Workstation and Server not to mention the file system drivers. When the utility started it would check the registry to determine which version it was running on. This was the same hack you used to turn a Workstation into Server.

Microsoft later added a piece of code which monitored the same registry entry and would start complaining if you went and changed it it would also change it back. But the utility could be told to look at a different registry value such as ProductTyp1 and it would still work. This, needless to say was definately not supported and pretty sure was against the licensing. Server line supported RAID 1 and 5. I doubt I'm the first one to mention this but this is completely retarded.

I can scan the primary OS partition for viruses, spyware, rootkits, etc without having to worry about them being running. I can repair and troubleshoot and it's great. My personal creations, Desktop and Documents folders go onto the mirror partition and my games and other big unimportant files go onto the striped partition. I get protection for irreplaceable things, speed where I need it and the reliability and compatibility of booting off a standalone partition with a drive configuration that is not tied to any hardware controller.

This is a great desktop setup and I recommend it to everybody. It's also impossible with hardware because all hardware arrays are tied to..
